A new beginning becomes more meaningful when people have the opportunity and support to build something of their own.

The Centre for Legal Support and Inmate Rehabilitation (CELSIR) has awarded business seed grants to selected formerly incarcerated persons following their completion of the Basic Entrepreneurship Programme (BEP), implemented in partnership with ONE Foundation.

The one-month programme equipped participants with practical entrepreneurship skills and supported them to develop business ideas capable of creating sustainable sources of income.

Speaking on the initiative, CELSIR’s Executive Director, Joke Aladesanmi, emphasised the importance of providing practical support beyond release:

“Reintegration is not just about coming home. It is about having the support, opportunities and confidence to rebuild a meaningful life.”

The grants were presented during CELSIR’s Development Forum, where participants also received certificates recognising their commitment to the programme.

For CELSIR, the grants represent more than financial assistance. They are an opportunity for recipients to rebuild, pursue economic independence and contribute meaningfully to their families and communities.
