Reentry Support

CELSIR provides practical support for justice-impacted individuals to return to society, including access to high quality education during incarceration, internship opportunities post-incarceration, further employment preparation and our newly introduced Safe House for Women - Ruby House.

The Ruby House - A Safe House for Women

We recognize that shelter is a fundamental human need, especially for those who have experienced incarceration.  The loss of a home can create significant challenges upon reentry into society, leaving formerly incarcerated individuals, particularly women, at heightened risk. In collaboration with “A New Way of Life,” we proudly present “The Ruby House”, Nigeria’s first halfway home specifically designed for formerly incarcerated women.  This haven empowers residents on their journey to reintegration by providing essential support and skills for self-reliance.

“The Ruby House” accommodates up to 15 residents and features a skills room, library, individual counseling spaces, and dedicated facilities for nursing mothers and pregnant women. Our thoughtfully designed environment fosters comprehensive recovery, addressing the diverse needs of our residents and ensuring they have the support necessary for a successful transition into society.

True freedom begins when a person has a safe space to rediscover themselves and rebuild from the inside out.

CELSIR is committed to supporting justice-impacted individuals in reentering society by supporting them through practical, high-impact initiatives, we help provide:

Internship Opportunities

CELSIR has been providing internship opportunities that empower formerly incarcerated individuals with essential skills for the competitive job market. Notably, some have been connected to fellowship opportunities, with our lead ambassador successfully admitted into the prestigious Global Freedom Fellowship in South Africa, and other beneficiaries have also explored other fellowship programs within Nigeria and abroad.

Employment Preparation

We are dedicated to equipping formerly incarcerated individuals with the tools and training necessary for success in today’s job market. Our comprehensive programs include a focus on both professional and soft skills, enhancing participants’ confidence and self-sufficiency. By providing targeted training in areas such as communication, entrepreneurial, time management, and leadership, we create meaningful pathways to employment and sustainable careers, helping to break the cycle of recidivism.

Global Freedom Scholars Network

The Global Freedom Scholars Network connects individuals who pursued higher education during incarceration. CELSIR proudly supports a vibrant community of over 60 CELSIR Ambassadors, facilitating connections and advocacy for systemic change. With active chapters across six countries in Europe and South America, including the newly launched Nigeria chapter, we are committed to providing robust reentry support and fostering a global network of justice-impacted individuals. Our collaboration with the Incarcerated Network Nation (INN) highlights our dedication to international solidarity and empowerment.

Successful reentry is about more than just breaking free from prison, it’s about creating the opportunities and support systems that will ensure lasting change.
